Job Description
Under the supervision of the Plant Manager and/or the Foreman, the Sharpener is responsible for sharpening, maintaining, and repairing circular saws, band saws, and knives to ensure they are always ready for production.
Key Responsibilities
- Sharpen and repair circular saws, band saws, and knives.
- Ensure that circular and band saw guides are properly adjusted.
- Perform saw changes according to operational needs.
- Replace profiler and edger knives as required.
- Change trimmer saws and inspect belts.
- Check board thickness after each saw change in collaboration with the Foreman.
- Ensure work is performed safely, in compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) laws and company regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation.
- Collaborate with other sharpeners, sawmill operators, and the maintenance department.
Requirements and Desired Skills
- Good knowledge of sharpening and sawing equipment.
- High level of precision and strong attention to detail.
- Autonomy and strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Vocational diploma (DEP) in sharpening (an asset).
- On-site training available.
- Experience as a sharpener in a sawmill (a strong asset).
